DoorDash announced October 29 it will acquire Instacart in a deal worth about $17 billion, paying $65 a share — a 26% premium to Instacart's October 22 close — mostly in cash. The deal still needs Instacart shareholder and regulatory approval, with closing expected late 2027 or in the first half of 2028, and the two companies will keep operating separately until then. DoorDash plans to keep the Instacart brand and app, combine DashPass and Instacart+ into one membership, and give Instacart customers access to more than 50,000 additional stores on top of the nearly 100,000 already on the platform. Bo's take: Grocery delivery just got a lot less crowded.
